General E.E. Anderson Awards Reception 

The Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division (GPSLD) General E.E. Anderson Awards Reception is one of the premier events for government lawyers at the ABA annual meeting. The reception provides an opportunity to showcase the exceptional work of government lawyers across the country and to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation of their extraordinary achievements. 

 Our reception is named in honor of one of the founders of GPSLD, the late General E.E. Anderson, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired. General Anderson was the youngest active-duty Marine ever promoted to the rank of General and the first Marine Corps Naval Aviator to be promoted to 4-star rank. General Anderson was a division leader until his death in 2015. In 2014, he was awarded the ABA’s highest honor, the ABA Medal. 

Each year, GPSLD’s three national awards are presented to outstanding public lawyers.

2022 Award Winners Include:

  • Dorsey Award to Alan Mills, Executive Director of the Uptown People’s Law Center in Chicago

  • Hodson Award to the 21st Theater Sustainment Command Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Department of the U.S. Army

  • Nelson Award to the late Gilda (Jill) Mariani, former Senior Investigative Counsel for the New York County District Attorney’s Office
